COVID-19

Stay home.
Wash your hands frequently with soap and water, use hand sanitiser if soap and water not available. Try not to touch your face.
Clean surfaces and door knobs regularly with a 1:10 bleach solution or disinfectant.
Wear a homemade cloth mask if you have to go out. If everyone wears a mask, this will help to decrease transmission. You can be asymptomatic and still transmit the virus, but if you are wearing a mask this transmission will be reduced. So we all help each other if we wear masks. There are many Youtube videos on how to make masks.
These masks are not 100% effective on protecting you from the virus, but if we all wear a mask they can help decrease transmission.
I would encourage all who can sew to start making masks for friends and family.
If you have cold symptoms, stay home and use over the counter cold medications.
If you have a cough, fever and shortness of breath, call the COVID hotline:
242-376-9350 8am- 8pm, 376-9387 8pm-8am, 242-502-7382 24 hrs.
Most people will recover from COVID-19, so try not to stress. Take precautions, protect your elderly family members by keeping your social distance.
Please continue to listen to reputable news items. Before you forward breaking news, please check that it is accurate. There is a lot of fake news out there.
Take a break from social media if it's making you feel anxious.
Enjoy the time at home with your family, catch up on reading, take an online course, play board games, call your friends, exercise, meditate, start a gratitude journal.
Eat healthy. Eat lots of veggies. Cut down on sugar and starchy foods.
Get enough sleep to keep up your immunity- 7 hours at least
Stay home, stay safe everyone!

Do vegetarians get enough protein? Yes
Do most non-vegetarian people get enough fibre? No.
Most of us need to try to increase our fruit and veggie intake.
Eat more plants! Only plants contain fiber. There is no fiber in steak :-).

Uncontrolled high blood pressure is one of the common causes of kidney failure

Uncontrolled high blood pressure is one of the common causes of kidney failure. If you have high blood pressure, think about what you are eating, increase your veggies, exercise regularly, take your medications, keep your appointments with your doctor. Protect your kidneys (and your brain and your heart, of course) and stay healthy!

There is a bug going around

There is a bug going around, causing severe body aches and stomach upset. If you get it, and you have a very high fever or a fever that lasts more than 2 days, or if you feel very ill, please see your physician.
Drink lots of fluids, drink them slowly, take acetaminophen for fever and pain (i.e. calpol/ tylenol/ panadol), and avoid dairy and greasy or spicy foods.
Have a great day!

Withdrawal doesn't work or protect you from HIV

6/10/2013

Withdrawal is not an effective contraceptive method. You will probably get pregnant if you rely on this method. You are also at risk for infections. Condoms protect you from pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. Remember HIV is alive and well and out there. You can't tell by looking at someone that they are infected. Be safe, get tested, protect yourself! You can do an oral HIV test and get the result in 20 minutes. Ask your partner to get tested also.
