Taking antibiotics

4/28/2012

When you start taking antibiotics it usually takes 2 or 3 days before they really kick in. So be patient. Take care of your body in the mean time so that it can heal itself: get lots of rest (at least 8 hours of sleep per night), drink lots of fluids if you have a fever, or a UTI (water is great - no calories!), eat your fruits and veggies, take your multivitamins and Vitamin C. Destress and relax. It's better to rest and recover, rather than pushing yourself and not really giving yourself a chance to get better. The world will turn without you, and when you get back on you'll be able to give your best.
If you are coughing, you shouldn't be at work. Don't share your infection with your coworkers.

Urinary tract infection

If you have burning or cramping when you pass your urine, if you have to urinate more often than usual and you are only passing a small amount, if your urine is cloudy or smells bad, you probably have a urinary tract infection.
You can help prevent urinary tract infections (UTI) by drinking lots of water, so that your urine is clear rather than dark yellow, not holding your urine, and urinating after having sex.
If you think you have a UTI, please see your doctor. Untreated UTI's can cause ascending infection to your kidneys, causing back pain, fever, and chills. This may result in permanent damage to your kidneys.
Have you had a drink of water yet for today?

Do you take Multivitamins?

Do you take a multivitamin? Most of us are not eating the recommended 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables per day, so we are not getting enough of the vitamins and minerals and antioxidants that they provide.
Most of us will benefit from taking a multivitamin every day. Women should also take a calcium supplement.

Food is a drug

Food is a drug. A healthy diet with lots of fresh home cooked food, fruits, vegetables and water is good medicine for your body.
Processed foods, lots of sugar and high fructose corn syrup, sodas, fried foods, food that comes out of a box, all these are addictive, and bad medicine for your body.
Lots of our weight gain, tiredness, aches and pains and minor ailments are linked to the food we eat. You put gas in your car because you know that's what it needs, you wouldn't consider putting water or kerosene in your gas tank.
Your body needs water, fruits and vegetables, fresh whole food. KFC, Wendy's, Bamboo shack and Burger King don't provide your body with all the building blocks it needs to keep you healthy.

Allergic reactions

If you get an itchy rash, wheals or hives forming on your skin, or your face or lips start to swell, you may be having an allergic reaction.
Take an antihistamine, eg histal, benadryl, DPH and keep taking it as directed till the reaction goes away. Try to figure out what you are allergic to. Have you eaten any unusual foods (unusual for you that is), are you using a new soap, detergent, perfume, cleaning agent, food ingredient? If you have changed your routine at all, stop the new things, that may be what has caused your allergy.
Sometimes you can't figure out what it is, it may be something in your environment that is beyond your control - a plant, flower, tree, something at work.
If your tongue starts to swell, if you have difficulty breathing, it is a medical emergency, please rush to the hospital.
If you are not getting any relief from the antihistamines, please see your doctor, there are other prescription meds that may help.
